Imphal, April 06 2012:
Bringing various irregularities of two Education Departments to light, All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has said that it will launch a series of survey tours to educational institutions of the State.
Speaking to reporters at its head office at DM College campus today, human resource development secretary of the students' body, Romen Leishangthem demanded the DCs, ZEOs and Programme Managers of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) of different districts to clarify why the sanctioned fund of Rs 4.77 under SSA took so long in reaching the respective schools.
The amount was handed over to the Headmasters/Principals of different schools through district level SSA Boards in April this year although it was sanctioned by the Government on December 25 last year, he added.
Romen also urged the District SSA Boards to elucidate why the students have not yet got school uniforms although uniforms worth Rs 6.02 crore have already been released.
In some schools, Romen added, it was found that Rs 400 was given to every student instead of school uniform.
Romen alleged that the then Director of Education (S) had taken signatures of Headmasters/Principals of Government model schools on blank papers regarding receipt of 100 desks and 100 benches by each school in January this year.
However, the items have not been handed over to these schools yet, he added.
Alleging that quality has not been maintained in various construction works taken up under SSA and RMSA, Romen also urged the authority concerned not to give clearance to the bill of the works which have not been executed properly.
Regarding Education (U), Romen said that the Department has failed to deliver library books, science equipments and furniture in time.
He also urged the Department to look into the construction works being taken up at different institutes.
Taking all these irregularities into account, Romen said that AMSU would conduct extensive survey tours in various educational institutes of the State starting from Primary level to University level.
