Imphal, April 06 2012:
On the occasion of World Health Day, the proscribed revolutionary group Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) has greeted the people of the state, specially elders.
In a statement signed by its Secretary Publicity, T Leisemba, RPF reminded the people how the day came into existence and pointed out that World Health Organisation (WHO) was established in 1948 under the aegis of United Nations Organisation (UNO) to address health issues that emerges from times to time.
The observance of World Health Day on April 7 is to commemorate establishment of WHO and the observance began since 1950 without any interruption.
Since its inception, WHO has carried out many remarkable activities in health sector.
Continuing the saga, the whole world is observing the day this year under the theme of Ageing and Continuing Good Health.
Quoting the reports of WHO, Leisemba observed that life expectancy of human beings has increased day by day.
So, it has become mandatory to pay more attention to the health care for elders so as to create societies which appreciate and acknowledge older people as valued resources and enable them to participate fully; apart from helping them to age fruitfully.
Older people are valuable resources of the societies and they should be made feel valued.
Lamenting over the present status of healthcare system in the state, Leisemba noted that one can easily see how the government spends minimum fund in healthcare system while spending a fortune in police modernisation and recruiting VDF personnel.
This shows that the state government pays more attention to suppressing the right of its people rather than ensuring proper healthcare for them.
Since olden days, elders have been guiding the society towards a better direction.
However, they seldom get respect in today's society from the younger generation.
In such situation, proper healthcare system for the elderly persons in the state still remains a far cry.
The old age pension provided by the government is also a mere ploy to gain vote during election, Leisemba said, while appealing to every families in the state to help their elders with proper health care.
