Imphal gears up to host 1st NE Development Summit

All preparations have been made for Imphal to host the first ever North East Development Summit on November 21 and 22 at City Convention Hall, Imphal .
The Summit will showcase the economic potential of the North East and explore the potential of NE India as an investment hub .
Chief Secretary RR Rashmi convened a meeting of all administrative Secretaries at the Old Secretariat to review the preparation of the respective departments for the Summit today at 5 pm .
Besides providing an opportunity for the NE Region to showcase its economic potential, the summit is also aimed at providing opportunity to engage with other Govt agencies, Embassies of various countries and investors to enhance the growth of the region and its neighbourhood.
The event will contribute significantly to the development of the entire North East Region, said a source .
The summit is being organising by the Manipur Infrastructure Development Agency (MIDA), a Government of Manipur undertaking, in collaboration with India Foundation, New Delhi.
Preparatory works on the Summit have been started under the guidance of Chief Minister N Biren and Ram Madhav .
The Summit will be structured around key themes like trade and investment, connectivity and infrastructure development, tourism development, skill development, capacity building and entrepreneurship and bio-economy sector etc .
It may be noted that the organising committee of the NE-Development Summit has already been formed with Suresh Prabhu, Union Minister for Commerce and Industries as the Chairman and Chief Minister N Biren as Co-Chairman .
Other members include Ram Madhav, Director, India Foundation, Himanta Biswa, Finance Minister, Govt of Assam and Rajat Sethi, Advisor to CM, Manipur .
Asnikumar Singh, Vice Chairman of MIDA is the convenor of the committee.
The Manipur Govt is trying to attract investors from inside and outside the country.
As a part of this effort Chief Minister visited Delhi recently along with State officials and interacted with key people of different important Ministries of Govt of India as well as representatives of leading MNCs .
At present the Manipur State Govt set a two-member team led by PK Singh, Principal Secy (Tourism) and Rajat Sethi to Dubai and the team highlighted the potential of Manipur to a variety of leading investors at Dubai .
Another two-member team led by Asnikumar and Dr Suresh Babu went to Delhi and team interacted with different key officials of Central Ministries as well as business houses foreign embassies highlighting the investment potential in Manipur in different infrastructure and development sectors in the near future .
