The UCM has urged the Governor to provide adequate security along the national highways and safeguard life and property of Manipuris in other parts of the NE region.
In a memorandum submitted to the Governor UCM demanded that adequate security measures be provided to ensure that the national highways-39 and 53 are safe from obstruction by anti-social elements and insurgents, so that passengers buses and trucks carrying essential commodities can ply freely.
The memorandum said the life and property of Manipuris residing in other parts of the Northeast should be safeguarded by keeping in touch with the Governments of the other States and getting positive commitments from them to protect them.
The UCM also urged the Governor to preserve Kekrupat area where 18 martyrs were cremated as �Martyrs Memorial Site� where the general public can have free access to pay homage to the departed souls.
It also urged the Governor to open HSLC examination centres in the district HQs of Ukhrul, Senapati, Chandel, Tamenglong and Jiribam.
The UCM also demanded immediate release of students and civilians arrested in connection with the ceasefire extension agitation and withdrawal of pending case against them.
Meanwhile, UCM condoled the death of O Ramananda, who died during a protest rally organized at Khongjom.
