The Governor, Ved Prakash Marwah, today appealed to all those who have left their homes in the valley for other areas during the recent anti-ceasefire extension agitation to return back.
Addressing a meeting of the Committee for Maintenance of Communal harmony today at the Imphal Raj Bhavan, the Governor also strongly stressed the need for all sections to continue to maintain the friendly relations existing between the communities in the State from time immemorial.
Marwah further reiterated his appeal to the media not to carry any reports or items that may lead to communal tension or misunderstandings.
The Governor also asked traders in the state not to take advantage of the current unrest to jack up prices of essential commodities.
At the same time, he assured the public that there was no scarcity of essential commodities in the state at the moment.
The former chief minister and veteran politician Rishang Keishing, participating in the meet, suggested that government employees who have left their places of employment should be recalled, and also suggested that peace committees should be formed at the district and block levels.
He backed the Governor�s appeal to media to avoid communally sensitive reports.
Others, who attended the meeting, including RK Theko, Helim Choudhury, Amrik Singh Pawah, RK Jhaljit and MK Binodini, stressed the need for maintaining communal peace and harmony and put forward many suggestions in this regard.
