Imphal, June 06 2021:
Liangmai Naga Council, Eastern Zone (LNC-EZ), Eastern Liangmai Chief Chairman Association (ELCCA) and Ahangruak Chief and Chairman Association (ACCA) strongly condemned the June 4 Chawla incident and conveyed their "deepest" condolences to the bereaved family members of the deceased.
"While we condemn the incident it will be too premature to demand the removal of the 44 AR E Coy, Banglabung outpost at Gelnel keeping in view the frequent occurrences of extortion, harassment and physical assault on the daily commuters on the IT Road by various underground elements," the Liangmai organisations said in a joint statement.
The Liangmai bodies, therefore, "strongly" requested the authorities concerned to settle the case by delivering justice at the earliest.
However, they appealed to the government as well as the Assam Rifles not to remove the existing AR Coy outpost at Gelnal village (Banglabung) in the interest of public security and maintenance of law and order along the deserted IT Road.
The Liangmai bodies also urged the state and central governments for opening additional security posts along the IT Road to "wipe out all kinds of unlawful elements and their activities for public safety" .
