AIMS proposes alternative Asian HW

Apunba Imagi Machasing (AIMS), Manipur has written to Union Minister of Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari for construction of an alternative Asian Highway from Kuirei Bhaya Khamasom Phungthar, Ukhrul district till Homalin, Myanmar.
According to the letter signed jointly by AIMS president Mayanglangbam Khelendro, director Dr T Atom Sunil Singh and Khamasom Phungthar social worker Awungshi Philip Soso; Homalin city is located near Chindwin River in the district of Sagaing region, Myanmar.
Boating along Chindwin River is currently the major means of transportation.
Meanwhile, Khamasom Phungthar is a remote village located in Ukhrul district and is renowned for its self-sustenance capability.
The village is located approximately 7km from Kuirei along Imphal-Ukhrul-Jessami National Highway.
As such, they appealed to the union minister to approve the construction of an alternative Asian Highway from Kuirei Bhaya, Khamasom Phungthar, Ukhrul district till Homalin, Myanmar to fulfill PM Narendra Modi's vision of Act East Policy.
This will not only improve the trade relations between the northeastern states and Myanmar, but also help in establishment of a close river port.
