Moreh, August 27 2021:
A team of United Committee Manipur (UCM) delegates led by its president Joychandra Konthoujam inspected the controversial Border Pillar 81 at Kwatha Khunou near Indo Myanmar border and the areas identified for setting up border fencing.
While at Kwatha, Joychandra Konthoujam alleged that the controversial BP-81 is being erected by crossing 3 kilometres into the territory of Manipur.
As per the people of Kwatha, the BP-81 is not a permanent; pillar and the real one lies 3 km ahead of the current location, he said and added that BRTF starting border fencing works wrongly despite the opposition of people is disappointing.
Saying that UCM will never accept such a wrongful exercise, he reminded that the controversial Border Pillar 81 was earlier inspected by a Central team in 2018 but no tangible solution has been brought till date.
Seeking the intervention of the Union Minister of State for External Affairs RK Ranjan Singh to solve the issue at the earliest, Joychandra said that a memorandum will be submitted to Chief Minister N Biren Singh and RK Ranjan Singh.
He also urged the State Government to take a decisive step to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur.
Later, the team visited the sites where the fencing works were initiated, which is about 2 kms from the current Border Pillar no 81.There, the team filled the holes which were dug out for setting up the border fences.
At the site, Joychandra asked the State Government to clarify whether they had given assent for such an erroneous work and cautioned of launching a protest more massive than that of June 18 if the work continues.
