Imphal, October 26 2021:
Though Ima Keithel has re-opened after months of closure due to COVID-19, the vendors are still struggling to make a good sale.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, one Athem Babita from Keishamthong Ahanthem Leikai who has a stall at Ima Leimarel Sidabi (Market number 1), said that the sale of vegetables when markets reopened after the first wave was very poor and the same is happening at the moment.
Saying that she used to sell goods worth around Rs 3,000 in a day , Babita stated that selling goods worth Rs 1000 has become difficult now.
She also stated that constant spoilage of vegetables and fruits has made her business unproductive.
Another vendor, Sinam Ashangbi, who sells 'Rani Phee' at Phouoibi Ima Keithel (Market number 2) said that the number of people coming to Khwairamband market to buy 'Rani Phee' has declined considerably due to the pandemic.
It is noteworthy to remember that the Khwairamband Keithel Sinfam Amadi Shaktam Kanba Lup had already expressed concern over the non-locals reselling the products bought from Ima Keithel at the periphery of the market complex.
The lup also expressed concern over the duplicate of Rani Phee shipping in from other States.
