The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has started preparations for the Lok Sabha election which would be held next year.
In line with an instruction from the Election Commission of India, a two-day training programme of election administrators was kicked off today at the CEO's Lamphelpat office.
Deputy Commissioners, SPs and SDOs are attending the training programme which was opened by CEO O Nabakishore.
Difficulties faced by election machinery at the time of election were discussed at the training programme.
Talking to media persons about the training programme, CEO Nabakishore said that the training programme was organised to make election machinery more professional and ensure that election for the two Lok Sabha seats is held smoothly and strictly in accordance with ECI guidelines.
Necessary measures have also been initiated to plug lapses and errors, if there is any in the electoral rolls.
Engineers of BHEL have conducted first level checking of the electronic voting machines in presence of political parties and Government officials apart from repairing broken down EVMs, informed the CEO.

The whole process of checking EVMs done in presence of District Election Officers was recorded on CCTV cameras.
Functions and duties of DCs and SPs during election time were discussed during today's training programme.
Claiming that no mistake was committed when EVMs were checked at the Thoubal DC office, the CEO said that it was done strictly in accordance with the ECI guidelines.
The CEO said that some components of EVMs cannot be touched.
However, no definite instruction has been received from ECI so far whether EVMs would be fitted with a paper trailer or add a new button of None of the Above (NOTA), added the CEO.
