Many more extend solidarity, seek justice

Condemnation still continues to pour in from several associations against the Assam Rifles, apart from showing solida-rity to the victim, in con- nection with the alleged harassment and assault on a lady IPS officer by an AR personnel at Khudengthabi check-post on January 19.Expressing shock at the incident, the IAS (Central) Association, New Delhi, has stated that it stands by with the colleagues in Manipur and urged all those concerned to cooperate with the SIT enquiry to ensure that justice is delivered.
The IFS Association (Central) has also come out strongly against the incident and demanded strict actions against the culprit at the earliest.
On the other hand, terming the incident as unruly and a criminal conduct, the IPS Association, Assam Chapter has lamented that the official statement released by the Assam Rifles against the young lady officer, is totally unwarranted.
Extending solidarity to the victim, the association urged for a quick and fair investigation to be carried out.
It also urged all the parties concerned to cooperate with the SIT for a swift solution to the incident.
Viewing the incident as a grave concern, the IPS Officers' Association, Tamil Nadu Chapter has labelled the official statement of the Assam Rifles as completely unwarranted and utterly unprofessional.
Terming it as an attempt to malign and harass the lady officer even further, while the case is under investigation, the association prayed for the investigation to be carried out in a fair, unbiased manner, delivering justice to the aggrieved officer.
Strongly condemning the assault and harassment of the lady IPS officer, the Naga Women's Union has lamented that it is indeed unfortunate such crimes have been meted out even to a woman in the security force.
The union then appealed the Government and the authorities concerned for immediate and suitable measures to prevent escalation of all forms of discrimination against women and to ensure proper security for women and innocent citizens.
The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU), the All Manipur Women's Social Reformation and Development Samaj and Chanura Marup, Manipur People's Party have also strongly condemned the act of the Assam Rifles.
The United Zou Organisation (UZO) and Shiv Sena Manipur State unit have also strongly condemned the incident.
Shiv Sena Manipur State unit has further announced that it will approach the Union Home Minister to take up necessary and befitting actions against the culprit.
Speaking to media persons, Shiv Sena Manipur State unit president M Tombi has informed that he will got to New Delhi on January 31 and meet the Union Home Minister so as to submit a memorandum demanding befitting punishment for the involved Assam Rifles personnel.
Reminding that the Assam Rifles have committed various atrocities against the innocent civilians of Manipur, especially against the women, and alleging that they have no iota of respect for the people of the State, he demanded the Assam Rifles to be replaced by either BSF or CRPF.
M Tombi, on behalf of the Shiv Sena, then lauded the Cabinet decision yesterday to replace the AR with State forces.
Speaking about the assurance by the CM to build a Manipur Bhavan at Maharashtra, Tombi said that, he along with an official team, including PDA Chief Engineer, went to visit the site recently.
He informed that they also submitted a written request by the CM to his counterpart in Maharashtra, Shiv Sena National president, Uddhav Thackeray.
Uddhav Thackeray has assured to offer every possible support in this regard, Tombi added.
