Inter-Collegiate Youth festival kicks off at CAU

The 4th Inter-Collegiate Youth Festival (2018) of Central Agricultural University (CAU) Imphal, began today at the University's campus at Iroishemba.
CAF&PD Minister Karam Shyam, CAU Vice Chancellor Professor M Premjit, CAU Director of Research and Director of Instruction, Dr CA Srinivasamurthy, Dean College of Agriculture, Dr JM Laishram and Director of Extension Education, Dr Ratan Kumar Saha attended the event as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.

A cultural procession of students from CAU's constituent colleges, flag hoisting and oath taking ceremony marked the beginning of the event.
Speaking at the event, Karam Shyam said that youth play a huge role in bringing development to a society or a Nation.
Desires for knowledge, curiosity, creativity etc are tools which students must nurture efficiently.
The world is becoming a global village with the advancement in science and technology, he added.
He further said that issues of racial discrimination against people from North East region in mainland India as well as methods to bridge the gap between various communities will be deliberated during the event.
The Minister further conveyed that the State is economically backward when compared to other States and stressed on the responsibilities of the youth in bringing development to the State.
He said that such festivals/ events are ripe places for generating ideas and visions which can bring change to the society and the Government is ready to provide any possible assistance or aid to fully develop such ideas.
Speaking at the event, CAU VC, Professor M Premjit said that CAU currently has 13 colleges and KVKs under its belt in the North East.
The University has produced 2328 graduates, 765 post graduates and 50 PhD students till date, apart from providing knowledge to around 2700 students at the present, he claimed.
Pointing out the achievements of the University, the VC said that 102 students who passed out from CAU have become agricultural research scientists.
He also mentioned that around 1691 (73 percent) of the pass out students are employed in various Government Departments while around 12 percent of the students are employed in other establishments.
Around 85 percent of the students who passed out from the University are contributing to the Nation, he added.
The VC further stated that students of the University have also brought many laurels in various competitions and examinations.
The students of the University also won three National awards last year, he added.
