Imphal, January 15 2018:
The enactment of Manipur Textile Policy by the Government is nearing completion.
The policy will help in boosting economy, facilitating production of the sought after handloom and handicraft products of the State and exporting the products to other States and countries.
This was stated by Director (Handloom & Textile) Lamlee Kamei while addressing the inaugural function of a five-day Entrepreneurship Development Programme for Weavers held today at the conference hall, MSME Development Institute, Takyel Industrial Estate.
The entrepreneurship programme is organised by All Manipur Entrepreneurs' Association under the sponsorship of Department of Handloom & Textile.
Speaking at the function, Lamlee Kamei stated that the programme provides an opportunity to the participating women weavers to explore ways to become a successful entrepreneur.
He asserted that women weavers of the State have been producing fine handloom products but due to the absence of big markets the products could not get deserving recognition and appreciation.
Sensing this, the Government after having a threadbare discussion started drafting Manipur Textile Policy.
Hectic efforts are being made to implement the policy from March, he said.
He further said that necessary arrangement will be made to make Loitang Khunou spining mill operational from the month of March by placing a power loom.
The Government is also planning to inaugurate the spinal mill at Nilakuthi in March, he added.
Informing that a draft meant for welfare of women weavers of the State has already been prepared, he said that experts will be asked to teach entrepreneurs regarding possibilities to export their products to outside.
He maintained that mela and workshop are being held at Manipur Trade Centre at Lamboikhongnangkhong, Imphal West to facilitate import/export business.
He appealed to All Manipur Entrepreneurs' Association to give suggestions on how to organise such programmes in a better way in future.
S Rishikumar Singh, president of the association also attended the inaugural function.
