Imphal, June 14 2012:
Intensifying their stand against the continued location of the offices of the Autonomous District Councils of Chandel, Senapati, Tamenglong and Ukhrul at Imphal, the Indigenous Democratic Front has warned that if the respective Deputy Commissioners do not submit the mandatory report on the factual status of the ADCs to the authority concerned by June 20, then it would be constrained to launch a series of agitation.
Making its stand clear, IDF in a statement today asserted that the people of the hill districts are reeling under untold miseries in the absence of the proper functioning of the ADCs at their district headquarters.
As the offices of the ADCs have been functioning from Imphal, the villagers now have literally no place to initiate development programmes in the hill districts.
It is only the few well heeled and socially mobile people who can afford to go to Imphal, it said.
Asserting that the public have been left to rue their fate, the IDF said that the Deputy Commissioners who are supposed to submit reports on the functioning of the ADCs to the authority concerned have turned a blind eye to their bounden duty.
To echo the disappointment of the public, the IDF will resort to mobilising the public to launch a series of democratic protest if the respective DCs fail to submit a factual account on the functioning or non-functioning of the ADCs to the authority concerned by June 20 .
"Without any communal bias, the IDF appeals to the conscience of the people of the State and beseech the Government to set things right," said the statement and added that no meaningful progress can be made unless the issue becomes the concern of all.
