Imphal, June 29:
All major students organizations in the North East have termed the centres policy to extend ceasefire outside Nagaland as divisive and demanded unilateral ceasefire with all the insurgent groups in the region.
The executive meeting of the North East Students Organization (NESO) which was held here yesterday had discussed the implication of the ceasefire extended to parts of Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh.
The NESO also debated over the burning issues of influx of Bangladeshi and introduction of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the NE region.
After the marathon meeting NESO chairman Dr Samujjal Bhattacharjee and general secretary Paul Lyngdoh told reporters last night that the meeting unanimously welcomed the peace process initiated by the union government with NSCN(IM).
We call for initiation of the peace process to cover the North East states and unilateral cease-fire declared.
However, the territorial integrity be respected and not compromised, according to a resolution which was adopted in the meeting.
The NESO chairman said, the peace process was always necessary but it should not be confined to a section of group or state.
We see that a better result can be expected if ceasefire is declared with all insurgent groups in the North East region and dialogue be held with all of them, Dr Bhattacharjee said.
The NESO said that the present policy of the centre was more divisive.
Expressing concern over the group of ministers report that about 1.2 crore of illegal Bangladeshi nationals were now residing in the region, the NESO chairman informed that all students organizations have agreed to fight the issue unitedly.
He said the NESO in its next executive meeting in Guwahati on July 14 would chalk out the strategy of its future course of action all burning issues, of the region.
The NESO, is an apex body of all student organisations of the NE.
