International Dance Day :: 'Instituting award would boost morale'

As a mean to endeavour the promotion of dancers in the State, it would be appreciable if the Government authority institutes an annual award for dancers, remarked a renowned dancer, Th Suryamukhi Devi.
She was speaking as the chief guest of the International Dance Day observance programme organised by the JN Manipur Dance Academy today at the Academy's premises.
Winner of Sangeet Natak Akademi award, Suryamukhi said like the International Dance Day has been announced by the International Dance Council under the UN to promote dance and dancers, she conveyed her desire that the Government institutes dance award to honour and boost up the moral of dancers.
Stating that the dancers of the State remain aparently neglected from the Government authority even if they secured a place in even the international arena, Suryamukhi lamented enough has not been done for the dancers.
She also urged the dancers and students to know the motif of the dance and dance forms.
The International Dance Day was also graced by retired Pradhan Guru of JNMDA, M Kamini Kumar and Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee, Th Chaotombi as the guest of honour and president respectively.
As a part of the celebration, cultural dances of Kabui and Mao were show-cased.
L Laxmi also enthralled the gatherings with her solo dance performance.
