Imphal, April 29 2012:
Amidst public outcry over brutal murder of Loitam Richard at Bangalore, which has once again brought forth the larger issue of discrimination against people from North East, particularly the students, in different parts of the country, reports of molestation of a Tangkhul girl, abduction of another Tangkhul boy and beating and looting of a Meetei boy have came to light.
All these incidents took place on the night of April 27 .
In the first incident which took place at Gurgaon, Sikandarpur, the Tangkhul girl, who worked in a private company, was returning home when two local men grasped her from behind and molested her.
Hearing the scream of the girl, some Tangkhul boys came to her rescue but they were also beaten up after raising false alarm and calling other local youths.
However, police have not registered any case contending that the incident was a fight between two groups, thereby negating the cause of the incident, which was molestation of a girl, according to information provided by Modhuchandra, spokesperson of North East Support Centre and Helpline.
In the second incident, one Thuirei Joshua Muivah from Muirei Village, Ukhrul Dist, who stays in Munirka and has been working as Senior Store manager in Ambience Mall Gurgaon for the past three years was kidnapped at Mahipalpur on the night of April 27.After being looted of his belongings and beaten up, the kidnappers abandoned him near a bus stand at Anand Vihar.
According to President of Tangkhul Katamnao Long, Delhi (TKLD) Leiyaza Hushu Wunga, an FIR has been registered with the police station of Vasant Vihar.
Wunga hoped that the Delhi police would do the needful in identifying the kidnappers so as to initiate necessary legal action against them.
In the third case, one Meetei boy was looted and beaten up at Mukherjee Nagar, near Delhi University, also on the night of April 27, Modhuchandra informed.
Modhuchandra, who has been the brain behind North East Support Centre and Helpline for the past eight years but is due to be transferred to Manipur on May 6 to work on issue related to human trafficking, has appealed to all the North East community in Delhi to ensure effective and continue functioning of the Centre in view of ever escalating crimes against North East people.
