It is said that the assailants actually inquired the whereabouts of indira's husband N Tomba Singh a contractor by profession.
As per police report, the assailants crashed through the fencing crashed through the fencing and called out if 'uncle' was at home to which Indira replied in the negative.
Moments later one of the unidentified persons, who was already conversing on telephone ended the talk and pulled the trigger against Indira.
As news of the woman's death spread, sabungkhok locals came out of their homes and resorted to wildcat closure of the Imphal-Ukhrul road since early morning leading to halt in vehicular movement from/to Ukhrul district.
Indira is survived by her husband, three sons and a daughter.
The body is still at JNIMS morgue awaiting necessary procedures while Lamlai police have registered a case to launch investigation.
It is pertinent to note here that people of lamlai AC had been besieged with an uneasy situation after activists of an armed group attacked, abducted and attempted to take captive close associates or active workers of the Health Minister.
To Recount a few, on the intervening night of July 25-26, unidentified armed persons made a futile attempt to whisk away one Surchandra (23) of Nongren Awang Leikai even though the perpetrators came asking for his father namely Leishangthem Tarpon.
Earlier, on July 21 midnight, one Huidrom Jitendra (28) suffered serious bullet wounds.
Jitendra's father namely Kokil is considered a close aide of Parijat, while on the previous night son and brother of the CPI Lamlai Local Council's secretary were abducted by armed persons who claimed to be KCP-MTF activists.
Police also speculate that all these recent incidents and the killing of one Elangbam Shyamkishore (55) of Yaingangpokpi Awang Leikai in the presence of his wife at an isolated spot along the Imphal-Ukhrul road on July 18 might be interlinked.
