Power minister Phungjathang Tonsing today said that the total number of authorized power consumers is 1,87,490 and 80 Mega Watt of power is supplying to the consumers during the pick hour.
The minister, in reply to a question raised by MLA Th Shyamkumar in the House of the state Assembly, further said that against the actual requirement of power during the pick hour is 170 Mega Watt while in the normal time it is 100 Mega Watt.
But only 80 Mega Watt is supplying during the pick hour showing a shortage of 90 Mega Watt shortages.
In reply to another question asked by MLA N Mangi of CPI, Phungjathang said that the Thermal Power Project at Leimakhong was set up at a cost of Rs 125.36 crore.
The power produced by the project could not meet the requirement power of the state.
The project was set up for standby purpose.
It operates power when the crucial needs arose.
During the recently concluded World Cup Soccer, the heavy fuel power project produced power to supplement the requirement.
It also operated in the supply of power during the HSLC and HSSLC exams.
The minister also observed that when the power plant was set up, the fuel cost only Rs 8 only.
Now the cost has risen to Rs 35.Due to the soaring up of the prices, the project is not operated.
While raising the question, MLA, N Mangi of CPI charged that the heavy fuel power project which was set up with huge amount could not be run and earned income to recoup the spent amount.
Who was the expert that recommend for setting up a huge project which is not suited with the state.
Such project which cannot be used is better not to keep.
