A public meeting organized today resolved to participate jointly by the people in the inquiry conducted by the Upendra Commission.
The meeting was convened by All Manipur United Clubs Organization (AMUCO) at MDU hall.
AMUCO president Ito Tongbram stressed the need for recording true pictures of what had happened for posterity and participation by the people will help the Commission headed by C Upendra, retired Session District and Session Judge find the truth.
Stating that there is a need to give the right direction to the inquiry advocate Khaidem Mani was of the view that the inquiry would be one sided if the people stay away of it.
He, however, added legal and political aspects of such a participation by the people should be taken into consideration.
Recalling the trial of Bir Tikendrajit in 1891 the noted lawyer disfavored non-participation of the people.
Social worker Th lboyaima expressed his suspicion of the constitution of the probe committee since there is no demand for it, but added that if people decide to take part in it then there is no problem.
Social worker Prongo Keishing stressed the need for maintaining communal harmony among the people living together for years.
Advisor of the Zeliangrong United Clubs Association, Manipur Valley Sham Kamei and president Kangleipak Muslim Chanura Development Organization Anuwari Nurjahan were among those who addressed the meeting.
