The proposed 15 hour bandh called by the Manipur Transport Joint Coordinating Committee tomorrow to protest against unavailability of fuel, has been put off in view of the AMSU's Hunger Marchers' Day on August 27.Announcing this in a statement the transport committee said the suspension of passenger service, however; will continue.
The committee is agitating against unavailability of fuel in the State.
It appealed to NGOs and other organizations to attend the meeting called at 1 pm of August 28 at Keishampat Thoubal parking.
Meanwhile the bandh called against unavailability of fuel and essential commodities by AISF from 4 am till 6 pm today passed off peacefully.
The main markets of Imphal remained closed for the day and shops and commercial centres downed shutters.
Khwairamband bazar was also closed down for the day.
Majority of the people did not venture out from their homes though some two wheelers and the odd rickshaws could be seen plying on the road.
Security personnel were out in full strength to avert any unwanted incidents.
Bandh supporters could be seen deflating the tyres of some vehicles at Khwairamband bazar, Nagamapal, Shamumakhong, BT road etc.
A number of scooterists were stopped by bandh supporters and made to push their vehicles.
Attendance at Government offices was skeletal and educational establishments cancelled classes for the day.
In other districts too the bandh had some impact.
