Imphal, August 25:
The All Manipur Students' Union has come out very strongly against Governor Ved Marwah and the PR regime for failing to look into the problems faced by the common people in the wake of the numerous stir taken up by transporters protesting lack of adequate fuel in the State.
In a hard hitting statement, the student body today charged that though the people have been feeling the pinch of the economic blockade and suffering beyond description, the Governor and his bunch of faithfuls have been turning a blind eye to the whole problem.
The SF deployed in the State have not been able to earn to confidence of the transporters and this shows that they are here just to torment the people instead of providing security to the common people, said AMSU.
Stating that the Centre and the officials who are ensconced safely in their chair are impervious to the suffering of the people, it said the best thing is for the Governor to give up his chair as he has failed on all front.
To wake up the ineffective PR regime it has drawn up a number of programme, AMSU said.
The agitators must realize that their action have caused untold sufferings amongst the hill people, who have to earn their daily livelihood.
Many hill districts are now facing shortage of food items; it said adding that traders who sell their wares at Imphal are also facing a lot of trouble.
That the action of one single organization should cause trouble to all the people including the hill and valley people should be realized and taken note of by everyone concerned, said AMSU.
The time has come for the people to take upon themselves the task of providing security on the highways; it said adding that waiting for aid from the Indian Govt.would prove futile and useless.
The State's population can easily provide protection over the 100/200 km stretch on the highway, it further said.
