Three youths, who came to the Patsoi residence of Mayengbam Shyam (58), an Under Secretary in Manipur Legislative Assembly, and threatened the family members with hand grenade, were caught by the local people and police after a hot chase.
According to police report, the three youths came riding in two motorcycles at the Patsoi Part-IV residence of Under Secretary Shyam at around 3.30 pm yesterday.
At first, they asked for Shyam.
But at that time, there were some girls in the house.
The three youths threatened the girls by showing one Chinese hand grenade to them and later drove their motorcycles all round the residential compound.
The news was reported to Patsoi Police Station by the local people and later the local people and the police jointly caught the three youths after a hot chase.
The arrested youths have been identified as Moirangthem Kennedy (27) s/o Borkeshore of Langathel Mayai Leikai, Oinam Naobi (24) s/o Mani of Uyumpok Maning Leikai and Ningthoujam Deben (19( s/o Manihar of Moreh Ward no..7One Chinese hand grenade, one Pulser motorcycle and one Yamaha mobike have been recovered from their possession.
The arrested trio were today produced before the court of a Magistrate which later remanded them to police custody.
It is said that although Under Secretary Shyam has not received any threat or monetary demand at the personal level, some people who identified themselves as members of KCP Khaba group have demanded Rs 50 lakhs at the official level.
In protest against the incident, womenfolk of Patsoi area today staged a Wakat Meepham.
On the other hand, protesting against the incident of exploding a hand grenade by unidentified armed persons at the Kabow Leikai residence of Thokchom Biren (54) who is an AI (School) under the Autonomous District Council, Kangpokpi, people of a locality staged a Wakat Meepham today.
The grenade was exploded on the night of October 18 .
No one was hurt in the attack.
It is said that one KCP Malemngamba group had demanded Rs 5 lakhs from Biren.
