Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has assured that an information centre with advanced technology information system would be set up for the benefit of around 10,000 Tangkhul students living in different parts of Imphal.
The Chief Minister was speaking at the inaugural function of 17th annual sports meet cum conference of Tangkhul Katamnao Long, Imphal (TKLI) at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium here today.
Notably, the announcement has come about just after a day rallies were taken out in district headquarters of the hill districts resonating with the cry for severing ties with the Government of Manipur and demand to the Government of India for an alternative arrangement for the administration of the Naga-inhabited areas.
Attending the function as chief guest, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh released a souvenir and unfurled the flag of the student body to signal inauguration of its annual sport meet cum conference.
In his address, the Chief Minister said that the proposed information centre would be set up at an estimated cost of Rs 20 lakh.
He also called upon the students to stay away from bad company and bad habits.
Presiding over the function, Sports Minister N Biren appreciated the sporting talents of Manipuri players who outshine their competitors in the recently concluded Commonwealth Games.
He assured that his Dept would extend every possible assistance to talented sports persons.
The annual sports meet cum conference of TKLI would continue till October 23.MPCC secretary Victor Keishing and Principal Secretary Ram Muivah were also among other dignitaries who were present at the inaugural function.
Meanwhile, teams of Checkon, Adimjati, Naga River and Nagaram won their opening round matches in football competition today which also featured preliminaries of men's and women's volleyball events.
