Imphal, October 20:
After Ukhrul and Tamenglong districts, it is now the turn of Senapati to cry foul over the release of funds against the PWD.
Pointing an accusing finger at the Works Department, the Senapati District Constractors Association today said that about Rs 1 crore CDA allotted to Senapati has been diverted for payment of other districts and detailed the mode of payment as well as the cheque numbers.
In a statement, the contractors alleged that out of the Rs 1 crore, a sum of Rs 59, 49,181 were diverted for payment to Imphal East district vide cheque numbers C-823577, C-823579 and C-823791.The contractors further said that Rs 15,00,000 have been withdrawn for NH-III vide cheque number C-823790, Rs 3,76,521 to Imphal West division vide cheque number C-823575, C-823576 and Rs 3,09,500 to Thoubal division vide cheque number C-823574.Another sum of Rs 2,00,000 have been diverted to Chandel division vide cheque number 823520 and Rs 38,46,716 for Senapati district were paid to 28 individuals and agencies, charged the contractors.
The contractors said that Senapati division has more than Rs 2 crores outstanding liabilities and to transfer such a huge sum to other divisions is not justifiable at all and urged the Government to maintain transparency in its dealings, especially while allotting CDA to Senapati in the future.
Meanwhile a highly placed source told The Sangai Express that fitting punishment would be given to anyone found guilty in misappropriating funds in Ukhrul and Tamenglong districts.
Reports about the fraudulent withdrawal of over Rs 80 lakhs for 16 works in Ukhrul has already rocked the boat of the SPF Govt with the CJM of Ukhrul taking up a prima facie case against some officials.
