With the North East region specially reserved for receiving one of the six Education Satellite (Edusat) beams launched by the Indian Space Research Organization (Isro) recently Manipur will also have 250 terminals of the Edusat, said Manipur University Vice Chancellor Prof Ng Bijoy Singh.
He was speaking as the chief guest on the occasion of second foundation anniversary of Mega Manipur Society at Yaralpat of Imphal East district today.
The Society's chairman Y Rupachandra presided the occasion.
In the first phase 50 terminals out of 250 would be available for Manipur through the MU and one will be reserved for Mega Manipur School, assured the chief guest.
The terminal earmarked for Manipur is of two types - Satellite Receiver Only (SRO) and Satellite Interactive Receiver (SIR), detailed the VC.
Expressing strong reservation at banning other language he said knowledge of additional language are of tremendous benefit to the students who desire to expand knowledge base, he added.
Stating that capacity building of students is a vital criteria for future success, Prof Bijoy said due to lack of capacity building among some section of the student community several educated youths of Manipur are lagging behind in other diverse field.
Speaking on the occasion, Y Rupachandra informed of the Mega Manipur School beginning its session from next year and attributed the materialization of the ambitious project of providing the State children to collective responsibility of the Society members.
He also exuded confidence of the new school able to extend quality education to the children so as the equip them with requisite knowledge to compete with their contemporaries in the highest level.
