Imphal, July 17 2011:
Contending that monthly entitlement for three months have not been paid till date in addition to non-regularisation of post, primary teachers appointed on contract basis have threatened to surrender their contract assignment to the State Government.
speaking to newsper-sons at Manipur Press Club today, Association of the DPC Successful Candidates for Primary Teachers/HMT/HGT 2006 Manipur president MS Rahaman said inspite of the Chief Minister assuring to regularise the post after three months of appointment no relevant process is being initiated.
thereby constraining 1167 primary teachers to decide on surrendering the contract assignment.
Serving an ultimatum to translate the assurance into action within July 27, Rahaman said failure to honour the demand will leave no other option but to resign enmasse.
Stating that along with the assurance of the Chief Minister to regularise the post within three months of appointment they had joined duty from April 11, 2011, the Association president maintained that a contract agreement for 11 months was signed with the Government under which the primary teachers were entitled to receive monthly emolument Rs 7600 each.
Further confiding that Director (Education) W Rajen had sent an official intimation to the Government for release of Rs 9 crores (approx) in order to clear salary dues of primary teachers which however did not yield the desired result, he also alleged that the newly recruited teachers are being victimised due to electoral politics of some vested politicians.
Observing that plight of the primary teachers are being ignored by the Government for which demanding adequate compensation cannot be ruled out, he also questioned wisdom of the Government for more recruitment of teachers under RMSA and SSA projects when the teachers already appointed are not being paid for the service rendered so far.
Rahaman also suggested that to improve the education system in the State there is need for sincerity and commitment on the part of Minister concerned and authorities of Education Department without which the future of Manipuri society will be very bleak.
Reiterating decision of the primary teachers to surrender their contract assignment, he cautioned that more intense agitation would be launched which could undermine the academic atmosphere in the State in case the State Cabinet fails to address the issue of not releasing pending entitlement of the primary teachers.
