Maram's go green mission

Maram Students Union(MSU) is all set to launch 'Go Green Mission' as part of its three year old tree plantation campaign in Manipur's Senapati district.
The Go Green Mission of the students union through this year's plantation stresses the vital role on how one's action is required to combat climate change and global warming.
"With our present approach to development,we have caused the clearing of much of the trees and forests that play an important role in regulating climate," a statement of MSU said.
Therefore in our earnest and sincere attempt to give back to mother earth what has been taken away from her and to stimulate and generate awareness on the issue of environment and climate change that will result into local community action.
We're committed to act locally as these measure are most tangible, in order to do our part as a duty to humanity, MSU President Pungdi P Celestine speaking to this reporter over phone said today.
Consequently MSU is coming out with more simple and local action plans stressing on massive tree plantation along the roadside and premises of educational institutions in the hill district.
The educational institutions of the district to be covered during the campaign are Rangtaiba memorial institute, PP Christian English high school,Don Bosco school, Mount Carmel academy, Saklim Christian English high school, Don Bosco higher secondary Senapati.
On the question of targeting Educational institutions during the campaign, the student leader opined that it aims to inculcate and instill in the younger minds a pride for collective efforts to ensure a sustainable future towards arresting the issue of climate change, global warming and plantation at dumping sites along NH 39 as mitigation measures against landslides and soil erosion.
Deputy Commissioner of Senapati district PK Jha and District Forest Officer Kh Ibohal will be the chief guest and guest of honour at the formal 'Go Green Mission' launching function at Senapati town on July 19 while Maram Union President RK Peter and Maram Women Union P Vina Lucy would be special guests.
