Imphal, July 17 2011:
Demanding regularization of their contract posts, 1167 primary teachers who were appointed by the Department of Education (S) on contract basis for a period of 11 months today threatened the state government that they will stage a series of protests including surrendering their contract agreements to the government, cease work strikes and legal petitions to court if the government failed to regularize their posts by July 17 .
MS Rehman, president, Association of DPC Successful Candidate for Primary Teachers said that the 1167 had reported for duty on Aprill 11 as per the decision of the state cabinet to appoint them on contract basis for 11 months.
The term for the contract teachers will expire on March 11, 2012 .
He said that the appointed teachers were against the decision of the government to appoint them on contract basis because they had passed the DPC for permanent posts.
They signed the agreement under the assurance of the CM who assured them to regularize their contract posts within three months.
Comparing the signing of the agreements with the forceful signing of Manipur's Merger Agreement to the Indian Union, Rehman alleged that the government has failed to translate its assurances into action.
The government has also failed to pay the salaries of the teachers even after three months of joining their duties, he said.
When they inquired to concerned officials, the official said , the department does not have funds to pay their salaries.
It was found that the state government did not include the budget of the salaries of the contract primary teachers in the state budget.
However, Director of Education (S) had requested to the state government to sanctioned an additional budget of ' 6,75,61,200 for the salaries of the primary teachers, he told reporters.
