New Delhi, May 10 2013 :
A delegation of the NESO (North East Students Organization) today strongly demanded detection of illegal immigrants from electoral rolls, deleting their names and deporting them to their respective countries.
In a press conference held in New Delhi , the ten member delegates called for an all party delegation to visit North East states and access the implications of AFSPA.
They stated that the ongoing peace process between the GoI and several underground outfits in NE should be 'time bound' with a solution that should be 'acceptable' to all.
Representative of AASU, NSF, AAPSU, AMSU, KSU , MZP, GSU, TSF, under the federation of NESO met Prime Minister two days earlier and several other political party leaders.
AFSPA should be amended, the delegates conveyed as stated by leader of BJP and opposition, Sushma Swaraj.
In a memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister , the student delegates proposed for an education policy, repeal of AFSPA, early settlement of the pace talks, employment opportunities and development (economic, infrastructural) initiatives, restructuring of DoNER ministry).
They also proposed for conceptualizing a special constitutional provisions and separate time zone for North East.
NESO expressed its concern and opposed the Indo- Bangladesh land swap deal of 2011 .
" The deal was without consent of the people.
With what authority GoI can give NE lands to Bangladesh without the people's consent?" asked Samjal Bhattacherjee, leader of NESO.
Maintaining that NESO is not "anti development", the student leaders reiterated that mega development projects such as dams should follow an inclusive process of policy formulations and implementation .
Such development plans should have a scientific basis and should have a time frame for completion, they added.
AMSU will take up concerted effort to tackle the issues facing Manipur and Northeast at large, said Thiyam Naresh, AMSU President who was part of the delegation, told The Sangai Express.
