Pallel drug seizure case of Feb 24 : Army Col placed under suspension

Former Public Relations Officer of the Press Information Bureau, Colonel Ajay Chowdhry who was arrested along with six others at Pallel on February 24, along with a huge consignment of drugs has been placed under suspen-sion.
The suspension order, dated 10th May, 2013 was issued today from Army Headquarters, New Delhi under the signature of Lt Colonel Sudeep Misra, and despatched to the 59 Mountain Brigade and Headquarters of the 57 Mountain Division.
Sources from the Army Headquarters, New Delhi today informed that the officer has been suspended from duty with effect from May 10, 2013 under RA, Para 349 of Regulations for Army, 1987 and Para 7 of ADG (D and V)/IHqs of the Ministry of Defence (Army) .
The suspension order was despatched via letter number 55216/AG/DV-I (P), said the source.
After the high profile drug seizure on February 24, 2013, Ajay Chowdhry was shifted from the Public Relations Unit of the Army, where he served as the PRO, and was transferred to the 59 Mountain Brigade as Additional Officer for investigation/initiation of disciplinary proceedings against him.

One day after the huge consignments of drugs were seized on February, the son of sitting Congress MLA, TN Haokip was arrested from his residence at Deulalane as a follow up action.
The Army Colonel and the other six have been in Judicial Custody since then.
Following the high profile drug seizure, the State Government had announced that the services of the Central Bureau of Investigation would be sought to probe the case and accordingly written to the Union Home Ministry.
Though the CBI has reportedly acknowledged the written missive from the State Government.
Significantly the Army Headquarters had indicated that it would not interfere in the civil case that has been taken up against the senior Army officer.
