As celebrated in other parts of the country, the 63rd Territorial Army Day organised by the State's Home Department was celebrated at 1st MR Banquet Hall here today.
Speaking on the occasion, Manipur PHE Minister I Hemochandra said Manipur Terriers is the first and only Territorial Army Unit raised purely from the domicile of Manipur and added that the raising of the unit has given direction and impetus to gainful employment of youth of the state.
He further remarked that the battalion has come a long way in helping the people of the state since its induction into the state in February 2007 and now it has become an inseparable part of the security set-up of the state.
While hailing the 165 Territorial Army Battalion for rendering services dutifully and in bringing peace, he said the unit is also playing a major role at the times of conventional war and natural calamities.
The terriers are playing an important task of being an interface between the local populace and the army and Assam Rifles units with distinction, he added.
The function was also attended by Chief of Staff, Eastern Command Lieutenant General RN Singh, Colonel of the Assam Regiment and Arunachal Scouts, Officers and troops of 165 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) (Home and Hearth) Assam and their families besides many civil dignitaries of the state government.
It may be mentioned that Manipur chief minister O Ibobi Singh was supposed to preside the function, but as he is out of station, PHE minister I Hemochandra graced the occasion.
