Program educates on drugs, crime

A four-day training programme on imparting education on drug abuse, women and child trafficking and its related crime, jointly organised by All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA) and RD and PR kick started at Tribal Research Institute, Chingmeirong from today.
Thangmeiband AC MLA Kh Joykishan, AMADA president M Padmini and Director of Prosecution Ng Tejkumar graced the opening function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Kh Joykishan said that the most dreaded ailment which has affected many youths in Manipur is drug abuse.
Hailing AMADA for organising such programmes at this critical juncture, Joykishan called on the people of the State to extend support to AMADA towards checking the menace of drug abuse.

In his speech, the MLA also expressed concern over increasing rate of crime against children, women's indulgence in flesh trade and child trafficking which according to Joykishan were not prevalent in the past.
Giving his observation on the means to curb these crime, Joykishan said that media needs to play an important role in educating the masses on the issue.
Ng Tejkumar said that many innocent women and their children are affected by HIV due to indulgence in drug abuse by their spouses.
On the otherhand poverty has guided many women to flesh trade, he added.
Expressing concern over widespread death of males due to drug abuse, Tejkumar speculated that female population would outnumber male population within 20 years if the present trend continues.
Later in the technical session, Ng Tejkumar spoke on drug and crime in Manipur as a resource person.
