Drug abuse a major threat to society, says MLA Joykishan

Joykishan today said drug abuse poses a major threat to the society and hailed All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA) for its pro-active role towards curbing illicit drug trafficking in the State.
MLA Joykishan inaugurated a 4-day long training programme on "Imparting Education against Drug Abuse, Women & Child Trafficking & its Related Crimes" being organized by AMADA at the Tribal Research Institute (TRI) conference hall, Chingmeirong here.
Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, the MLA from Thangmeiband A/C said drug abuse is a major threat to the society and all of us should render support to AMADA which has been working hard to save young lives from being spoiled by drug.
On the issue of crimes against women and children in the State, he stressed on the importance of spreading mass awareness in tackling such crimes with great determination.
Director of Prosecution, advocate Ng Tejkumar, who was also present on the occasion, pointed out that the number of crimes against women and children in the State has scaled up.
A total of 14 cases related to crimes against women were registered in the period between January and June in the current year during which 153 drug related cases were also recorded.
"We need to fight against drug menace and crimes against women and children with a collective effort," Tejkumar called.
President of AMADA Mayai Loishang, M Padmani Leima and a host of leaders from different social organizations attended the function.
