BSF have held the PLA militants responsible for the killing of Head Constable S Chakraborty at Kwakta bazar yesterday.
Deputy Inspector General of BSF, Nagaland and Manipur Range PK Misra, in a press release said that the PLA militants shot down Chakraborty who had gone-to purchase certain items from the market alone in civil dress.
He said that the militant who fired three rounds on the Head Constable from point blank range escaped on a two-wheeler driven by one Md Riazuddin.
They were chased after by two BSF personnel and opened fired at the militant thereby causing injury on his shoulder.
Riazuddin was apprehended from Saiton village and the scooter was seized but the militant, who took shelter in the mosque at Saiton in the first instance and later on in a house of one meira paibi member finally escaped toward the Dumpi hills, the DIG said.
In the meantime, the area was cordoned off and search operation conducted.
On checking a vehicle at Torbung Bungalow, one Mizo woman named N Vambawih (30), w/o Thanshi, the pastor of the Baptise Bible School, Bangalore and a resident of Aizawl, Mizoram, who was found carrying eight Japan made wireless sets with 12 antennas to be allegedly handed over to the militants was apprehended and handed over to the SP of CCpur after interrogation, the release said.
In another case, the release further informed that a BSF party of STC CCpur stationed at SBI, CCpur arrested two ZRA militants identified as Mangkholun (19) and Paubiakhan (18) along with one 9 mm pistol, six rounds and one magazine.
They have been handed over to CO of CCpur Police Station, the release said adding that interrogations of the arrested militants are being done at the police station.
PLA claims responsibility: Claiming responsibility for the killing of the BSF Head Constable yesterday, the PRO, General Headquarters of People's Liberation Army, Lt Robinson in a press statement today said the attacked was carried out by a special team of the Auxiliary command of the outfit after a thorough and meticulous planning.
