Sensitisation cum consultative meeting organised

District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Tamen glong organised an online sensitisation cum consultative meeting on Monday.
During the meeting which was held under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority (Legal Services to the Victims of Drugs Abuse and Eradication of Drug Menace) Scheme 2015 for members of Special Unit set up f6r Tamenglong and Noney districts, discussions were held on the functions and objectives of the scheme, including the role of Special Unit.
The meeting was attended bv District and Sessions Judge; Imphal West cum DLSA Tamenglong chairman Aribam Guneshwar, MASLSA additional member secretary S Sadananda, CJM cum DLSA secretary Dr Laishram Rina, Special Unit members, JFMC Civil Judge Junior Division (Noney) Leonid Ahanthem, Additional SPs (Law & Or der) Noney and Tamenglong, medical officer Tamenglong, young lawyers of Tamenglong and Noney, social workers of Noney and secretary of Revival De-addiction Centre among'others.
Delivering the keynote address, Aribam Guneshwar stressed the need for dealing with the drug issue in the two districts.
He then stressed the need for considering drug users as victims and keeping them away from drug suppliers.
We should also try to properly rehabilitate the drug users and help them reintegrate into the society, he pointed out.
In his speech, S Sadananda emphasised that the government, legal services authorities, CSOs and stakeholders need to work together to deal with the drug menace in the state.
The NALSA scheme aims to provide a platform to end the drug issue, in addition to encouraging participation of Panchayati Raj institutions, village authorities, local clubs and grassroots level institutions under a specified framework.
He then called for an institutional framework to provide rehabilitation to drug addicts.
