Tree plantation drives organised

To promote people's participation in tree plantation, 44 Assam Rifles under the aegis of 22 Sector /IGAR (E) along with locals planted 5300 saplings on Azuiram ridgeline.
Van Mitra alongwith GREEN WARRIORS of 44 Assam Rifles planted saplings at different locations under village Phellong, Namtiram, Azuiram, Sarambha and Thillon.
A mass plantation throughout these villages in one single day has created a history in itself.
The enthusiastic villagers from all walks of life participated in this plantation drive.
Commandant, 44 Assam Rifles while starting the event through video call said that the continuous demolishing level of trees in the area has been a problem for a long time, and Van Mahotsav is important in creating awareness among youth on the issue.
He emphasised that for every tree felled, ten trees should be planted to make up for it's loss.
The festival raises the awareness of trees among people and highlights the need for planting and tending of trees as one of the best ways to prevent global warming, water scarcity and reduce environmental pollution.
The youth leaders from these villages said that planting of saplings will help in creating shelter - belts around agriculture fields to increase soil productivity, boost soil conservation, prevent erosion and can be extremely effective in slowing down global warming and reducing environmental pollution.
In another instance, a tree plantation drive was also organised by STC BSF Churachandpur inside its campus today.
The tree plantation was supervised by Raja Babu Singh (IPS), Inspector General, STC BSF Churachandpur with Himanshu Mehta, Executive Engineer, CPWD.
Raja Babu Singh addressed the participants and emphasised the importance of plantation in maintaining the equilibrium of nature and informed that the last decade has made the consequence of our broker relationship with nature more evident than ever before.
He emphasised on the importance of nature for our survival and said it is our paramount duty to hand over to our children a better environment than we received.
