Makru bridge to become accessible in June

Imphal, May 18 2021:
National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) has finished construction of the Makru and Barak RCC bridges along Imphal-Jiribam route and the bridges will become accessible by first week of June.
Constructed at a cost of around Rs 100 crore sanctioned by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Chief Minister N Biren Singh had performed a 'Bhoomi Poo-ja' at the site on October 12, 2017, following which Bhartia Infra Project Limited (BIPL) commenced work on the two bridges.
According to an official of BIPL, the deck slab casting of the 90-metre long Mak-ru Bridge was completed on May 14 .
It will take approximately 15 days for curing of the casting, after which the bridge will be blacktopped.
As such, it is believed that the bridge could become accessible by first week of June.
On the other hand, the work on Barak Bridge has progressed significantly and it will likely be completed by September.
BIPL is working 24 hours a day to complete the works on the two bridges as soon as possible, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, the official conveyed.
