Women demand action against army

Imphal, July 18 2013:
Submitting a memorandum to Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who also holds the portfolio of Home, Naga Women's Union and Rongmei Women's Organisation have demanded taking up suitable actions against the officers and personnel of 8 Gorkha Regiment deployed at Khoupum.
In the memorandum, the two tribal women bodies said that on Sunday the personnel of 8 Gorkha Reginment under command of one Major Sachin whisked away an innocent farmer identified as Nailin Malangmei (54) on alleged charge of having connection with UGs and subjected him to inhumane torture.
Such excesses of the security forces are against the international law and in total violation of human rights, the tribal woman bodies said, while demanding suitable actions against the officers and personnel involved.
