Imphal, August 30 2013 :
Even though the National Food Security Bill-2013 sounds promising to make India a hunger free country, the Congress Government would not be able to implement it effectively amidst economic crisis, President of BJP Manipur Pradesh Th Chaoba told media persons here today.
He further said that the Congress Party has put up the Bill at the wrong time just to garner people's support in the coming Lok Sabha Election.
The Government would not be able to pay even the employees' salaries owing to the present economic crisis.
Chaoba contended that the State Government has not been able to implement the flagship programmes of UPA Government such as MGNREGS and there are so many irregularities even in Public Distribution System (PDS).
People have not seen a single grain of rice supposedly provided under AAY and Mid-day Meal schemes for quite a long time, he noted.
Lack of efficient transport facility coupled with deplorable highways would ultimately derail the implementation of National Food Security Bill in the State.
Moreover, the State has no enough godowns to stock up food grains even for the PDS.
The Bill would obviously be a failure considering such bottlenecks and inefficiency of the Congress Government, the State BJP President observed.
He further maintained that there is still obscurity in the selection procedure of beneficiaries for National Food Security.
The Government said that no beneficiary would be selected if his/her annual income exceeds Rs.one lakh, owns a four-wheeler or draws salary.
The malpractices in the selection of beneficiaries for National Old Age Pension and other social welfare schemes could not guarantee transparency in selection of beneficiaries for the food security scheme, Chaoba added.
The National Food Security Act-2013 has been accepted constitutionally and so people can demand their rights to the law courts if the Government fails to deliver their food.
The Congress Government would now be in great trouble with the consequences of food security scheme.
People would ultimately rise against the Government if their right for food security is violated.
The short-sightedness of the Congress Government would be the cause for its downfall, the State President asserted.
