Imphal, August 27 2021:
Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN) has appealed to all concerned not to take any step which could wrongly interpret factual events of history.
According to a statement of HERICOUN, wrong works and steps taken by the past generation at different phases of history coupled with writers giving historical narratives in their own perception while sidelining factual events has created misunderstanding among the present and future generation.
The HERICOUN statement issued by its publicity and propaganda secretary Yumlembam Yaiphaba opined that there seems to be no policy to record events occurred during the time of the present generation and there are scores of examples.
Many places closely associated with history and identity of the people of Manipur are being changed and given alien names.
Khurai Ahongpung has now been changed to Telipati while several areas in Khwairamband Keithel have been converted into Rupmahal Tank, Kalibari, Iain Mandir Galli and Alu Galli.
Apart from this, many villages are being named like Premnagar, Boro Bekra, Kalinagar, etc., while many sacred indigenous religious sites are being converted into sites for dieties like Mahadev, Hanuman and Krishna, Yaiphaba said adding that the present generation happily granted these new names and considered the changes as development.
Deeply concerned over the differences on the date and day of observance of Khongjom Lal anniversary, HERICOUN also appealed to experts to bring a conclusion in this regard to avert misunderstanding in future.
It further appealed to the government to rectify words written on the monolith erected at INA complex, Moirang so that factual historical events could
not be wrongly interpreted.
