Man ran over, VIP vehicle remains elusive

Even after days of committing a road accident in full public view, the VIP vehicle that ran over a man at North IOC Imphal and escaped through the premises of Kangla Fort at around 6.30 pm on December 18 remained elusive and police are yet to make any breakthrough into the case.
Eyewitnesses said the VIP Scorpio vehicle with a Red Light beacon and official name plate ran over a man and escaped through the Kangla Fort.
The victim was identified as one Nganaongai Vashum (60) of New Tusom under Chingai sub-division of Ukhrul.
The victim, a father of seven children, was the headmaster of Government Frontier High School in New Tusom.
He reportedly arrived at Imphal on school duty and submitted the student forms for HSLC examination at the board office on that fateful day.
His family appealed to the concerned VIP to come forward and admit the accident on humanitarian ground.
Immediately after the incident, he was rushed to the nearby Raj Polyclinic and was on coma for 28 hours.
It was informed that the victim was supposed to arrive at Ukhrul on December 19 and had already booked a ticket for Spy Jet bus.
Imphal West police led by SI BhatharJit had conducted the spot inquiry and an FIR has been registered.
Family informed that the matter has been apprised to MLAs of Ukhrul district and reported to Deputy Chief Minister.
On Thursday at 6 pm, a condolence service has been conducted at Phungyo Baptist Church, Ukhrul and the mortal remain has been taken to New Tusom.
Meanwbile, condemning the incident, All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) and Tangkhul Katamnao Long Imphal (TKLI) have jointly pressed for necessary action against the culprits.
