Imphal, April 10 2022:
Ball Badminton Association Manipur (BBAM) felicitated the state team, which participated in the 40th Sub-junior National Ball Badminton Championship 2021 held in Rajam, Andhra Pradesh in a function held at Youth Hostel, Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, here on Sunday.
Attending the function as chief guest, education minister Y Khemchand said that some may be happy for him on getting the ministerial berth but for him there is no meaning for celebrating the post.
Being a minister means taking on more responsibilities, he said and appealed to all departments under his portfolios not to waste their precious times and resources in felicitating him.
Instead, he suggested discussion on lack of infrastructure, resources and development works in order to bring efficiency, transparency and accountability in all departments entrusted to him, he said.
While pointing out that Manipur is known for its sporting talents and it is a challenge for the sports-persons of the state to strive for better performance, he also acknowledged that the education was severely affected for the last two years by the Covid-19 pandemic.
With the pandemic situation improving, it is time to focus on education as well as sports.
From this session onwards, the education department will begin sports activities during summer vacation to promote sports among the students, he said and assured to extend all possible assistance in sports programmes.
BBAM president Dr Laiphrakpam Kumar presided over the function which was also attended by youth affairs and sports director Takhellambam Phulen, JNIMS director professor L Deben and BBAM general secretary Thokchom Tomba as guests of honour.
Certificates were also distributed to the members of the state Ball Badminton team at the event.
