Thoubal, April 10 2022:
Pointing out that the 4.2 km long road project from Haokha Babu Bazar to Kiyam Wangmataba and Moijing under PMGSY has been halted after the earthwork, Kiyam Wangmataba Youth Welfare Association (KWYWA) has appealed to the authority, concerned to look into the matter and take up necessary measures to complete the project with strict quality control.
Interacting with the media during an inspection of the road on Sunday, KWYWA secretary Thingujam Manichandra said that the present condition of the road has made the entire stretch dusty resulting in respiratory diseases among the people residing on both sides of the road.
With rainy season approaching, the local residents are worried that the project might get delayed and in such an event, they would be facing severe hardships in commuting the muddy road.
As per information printed on the signboard erected at the starting point of the road, the project was supposed to be completed by January 1, 2022 .
However, it has been stopped after the earthwork, which was also carried out in sub-standard manner without using roller for proper levelling, he said.
He further informed that a RCC bridge constructed over Thoubal River connecting Waithou Tangjeng and Kiyam Wangmataba under PMGSY about three years ago was also left without completion.
He then drew attention of the minister, department and contractor concerned to complete the two projects before the advent of monsoon season.
He also warned of launching agitation if the authority continues to ignore their appeal.
