Motbung girl selected for internship course in Thailand

Making the people of Kangpokpi proud in the education sector, Nengngaikim Lhouvum, daughter of Letkhohao Lhouvum of Motbung model village, has been selected for an internship course at Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand.
Nengngaikim, who is currently pursuing BSc (Honours) 7th Semester at Junagadh Agricultural University (JAU) College of Agriculture, Gujarat has been selected for undergoing three months internship course on 'Nutrient and Irrigation Water Management in Field and Horticultural Crops through Smart Agriculture Technologies' .
A total of 15 students from JAU, Gujarat were selected under NAHEP- IDP project for the internship during which they would go to four different universities worldwide including AIT, Thailand; Hebrew University, Israel; UC Davis, USA and ICBA Dubai.
Speaking to the media, Nengngaikim Lhouvum expressed that all this has been made possible because of the efforts of JAU vice chancellor Dr NK Gontia, director of research Dr PM Chauhan, College of Agriculture principal Dr SG Savalia, NAHEP-ICAR national director Dr RC Agarwal, and NAHEP-IDP, ICAR national coordinator Dr P Ramasundaram.
She also stated that JAU, Gujarat happens to be one of the seven South Asian universities selected under this project and the varsity has consistently performed well in procurement, infrastructure, development and student training programmes.
A poor rural student from Manipur, Nengngaikim is the only from the North Eastern states, who has been fully sponsored by World Bank Institutional Development Plan (IDP) under the aegis of National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP) of ICAR, New Delhi.
It can be mentioned that NAHEP-IDP, formulated with a total cost of US $165 million starting from 2017-18, is a project formed on 50:50 cost-sharing basis between World Bank and Government of India, and it is being implemented by the Education Division, ICAR, New Delhi.
The project aims to develop resources and mechanisms for supporting infrastructure, faculty, and student advancements and providing means for better governance while the objective of the project is to evolve a holistic model for raising the standard of the current agricultural education system.
Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand is an international organisation for higher education situated 40 km north of Bangkok.
It specialises in engineering, advanced technologies, sustainable development, and management and planning.
Associate professor Dr Avishek Datta and Assistant Professor Dr Sushil Kumar Himanshu will be monitoring the students in Climate Smart Agricultural technologies while the internship also comprises exposure tours and hands-on training sessions.
