The 3rd Rashtriya Dalit Sahitya Samman Sammelan, 2014 of Dalit Sahitya Academy Manipur was held today at Manipur Press Club with MP Dr Th Meinya and Dr NS Khoba, national president of BJRKSSA New Delhi attending as chief guest and president respectively.
Kh Menjor, founder of KM Blooming Higher Secondary School, Khangabok; Wangkhemcha Shyamjai, president of AMWJU; Rajen Ayangba, president of Japanese Hospital Manipur and Y Mahendrakumar, national secretary of BDSA New Delhi were also present as guests of honor.
Addressing the gathering, MP Meinya observed that literature and art are indispensable part of mankind as the two entities collectively act a mirror of a society and added that literature should be further consolidated by writing more book, short story and novel on relevant topics.
Noting that development will come in the State only when people of different communities co-exist together with extending help to each other, he asserted that hard work and dedication are the only means to achieve goals as there is no short cut for success.
Shyamjai conceded that the role of literature in building a society is of paramount importance and pointed out that several factors like lack of trust amongst each other and enmity are causing hindrances to bringing unity in the State.
He said that the State is lagging behind in many aspects like infrastructure and business establishments as compared to other States which needs to be accelerated by putting concerted efforts.
Along with felicitating several personalities namely Kh Sunita, National Best Teacher Awardee 2014; Ng Praneshori, State Best Teacher Awardee 2014; L Nirmala, State Best Teacher Awardee 2014 and K Jayenta, State Best Tescher Awardee 2014; gifts were presented to several dalit workers and eminent scholars in recognition of their exemplary humanitarian services during the programme.
Offering of floral tributes to photo of Dr BR Ambedkar and performance of cultural programmes were other main highlights of the programme.
