Free medical camp held

Imphal, March 16 2015:
A one day free health camp for Domestic helpers was held at Savio Hall, Chingmeirong on Monday.
A team of four doctors and three nurses did the health check up of 202 domestic helpers and their family members.
The health camp was organized by Manipur Domestic Workers Movement Organization and sponsored by Tribal Health Unit, Manipur Health Society, NHM.
Free medicines were also provided to the beneficiaries during the health camp.
In Manipur, around 1500 domestic helpers are registered in Manipur Domestic Workers Movement Organization expressed Sister Agnes Khala who is the State Coordinator of the Organization.
The organization was registered in 2010 and awareness on human trafficking and empowerment of the domestic helpers for their rights are some of the areas the organizations have been working.
Sister Agnes also expressed that today's health camp was organized after she contacted the National Health Mission, and she is thankful as the domestic helpers do not have time to even look after their health and they also could not meet the expenses or find time to check up their health.
Manipur Domestic Workers Movement Organization also gives placement and they have been championing the rights of the domestic helpers for a one day holiday in a week time.
At present the organization is active in Imphal West, Imphal West and Senapati.
They have a mission to expand to other districts as well.
After giving placement the organization follow up through phone and check whether the helpers are paid or whether they are safe in their workplace.
