Imphal, March 16 2015:
Two persons including a minor girl were injured when a wall which was built recently to block the JN Hospital Road (Pong Lambi) collapsed at around 3.45 pm today.
The wall is under construction to permanently block the said road.
Khangembam Ratan (45) and Khangembam Nanaomacha (8) of Wangkhei Soibam Leikai were injured as the wall collapsed on them when they crossed the foot-bridge constructed over a drain by the side of the brick wall.
Nanaomacha was severely injured on her elbow while Ratan sustained injuries on his legs.
Ratan said, "the double layered wall suddenly collapsed over me and Nanaomacha as we were crossing the footbridge" .
It may be mentioned that the Pong Lambi used to be the connecting road of various localities of Khurai, Kshetrigao and Lamlai Assembly Constituencies.
But now as the road has been blocked, people are facing various problems to reach other places and more importantly JNIMS hospital.

People from various localities have been demanding the authorities concerned to remove the blockade.
The road was blocked some years back after the JN Hospital was upgraded to Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS).
In those days, people of Porompat Kongkham Leikai and other localities of the area requested the authorities not to block the road but the authorities stepped aside the request saying that the road blockade was for the time being.
Though the foot-bridge was later built for emergency purposes, now authorities have decided to completely block the road against the wishes of many people.
Moreover the blockade caused serious inconvenience to the people who come from the eastern part of Imphal for treatment in JNIMS.
It not only lengthens the way to JNIMS.
An elder of the Porompat Kongkham Leikai said, "The road (Pong Lambi) has many historic significance and it has been there since many years before the JN hospital came up.
It would be unwise to destroy our own history by permanently closing the road".
He further drew the attention of the Governing Council of JNIMS to mull over the inconveniences people have been facing and do the rightful.
Recently a mass sit in protest was also held against the closing of Pong Lambi, requesting the Chief Minister of Manipur and the authorities concerned to exclude the idea of closing the road from their plan and projects of JNIMS.
A similar protest demonstration on the same demand of re-opening the road was held today at Kongpal Khaidem Leikai.
