NCP-MPP pre-poll alliance being talked over

An economics Professor of the Central Manipur University, Canchipur, Nandeibam Mohendro is slated for contesting as the candidate of Manipur People's Party (MPP) for the inner Manipur parliamentary seat in the ensuing general elections scheduled to be held sometime in April/May.
Most reliable sources in the MPP told the Hueiyen Lanpao that the party has taken a decision as regards fielding Prof N Mohendro as its candidate for the inner Manipur parliamentary seat.
However, official announcement is likely to be made on February 11 .
Meanwhile, the MPP and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) have begun talking about a possible pre-poll alliance between the two parties.
A meeting between the leaders of the two parties was held this evening at the residence of former Chief Minister and present president of NCP, Manipur Pradesh, Radhabinod Koijam at Thangmeiband.
MPP president Dr L Chandramani, senior leader MLA O Joy, MLA Dr Ng Bijoy, MLA RK Anand and others from the party attended the meeting.
Radhabinod Koijam led the representatives of NCP, Manipur Pradesh.
It is learnt that the two sides talked over building a possible pre-poll alliance.
However, no decision was arrived at the meeting.
Meanwhile, the election committee of MPP held a meeting at the party office today and decided to put Prof N Mohendro up as the party candidate in the upcoming general elections.
Sources in the party told this newspaper that the party has selected its candidate, but the official announcement will be made on Wednesday.
The sources further informed that former Union Minister Thounaojam Chaoba was also one of the aspiring candidates for the party nomination.
However, owing to some reasons, he withdrew from his stand leaving Prof N Mohendro as the only choice of the party.
The meeting of the election committee of MPP went on from 4 pm till 6 pm at the party office.
After the meeting, a delegation of the party led by president Dr Chandramani headed towards the residence of Radhabinod Koijam on the latter's invitation for discussion on matters relating to pre-poll alliance.
