Imphal, February 09 2009:
'The government has failed thus far to provide financial assistance to a victim of security action against the construction of Mapithel dam protestors on November 3 last, who has been admitted to the Shija Hospital here.' This was stated today by the joint secretary of Mapithel Dam Affected Ching-Tam Organization, T Somorjit, at a press conference inside the Shija Hospital campus, Langol.
He said that even after a lapse of three months, no assistance from the government has been coming forward to help the ailing Lungmila Shaiza, who has suffered major injuries in a standoff with security personnel who resorted to lathi-cahrge and firing of tear gas on November 3 last to disperse dam protestors at Mapithel.
He said over Rs 4.50 lakh has been spent on the victim.
He lamented that Lungmila Shaiza has not been discharged from the hospital because her health condition is improving, but due to shortage of money she has been discharged.
He said that at least 42 womenfolk have been suffering injuries due to security action of firing tear gas and baton charging while adding that it is very 'unfortunate' on the part of the government who till now doesn't take action against the security personnel.
